📝 Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 white onion, grated
- Garlic powder, to taste
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 to 2 spoonfuls dill relish
- 1 (12-pack) package Hawaiian rolls
- 12 slices mild cheddar or American cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- Sesame seeds, optional
👩🍳 Directions
- 1
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- 2
2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and grated onion. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks.
- 3
3. Drain the excess grease from the beef mixture using a paper towel or your preferred draining method.
- 4
4. Stir in the mayonnaise, mustard, and dill relish until the beef is evenly coated.
- 5
5. Lightly butter a baking sheet. Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the tops and bottoms connected if possible. Place the bottom half of the rolls on the prepared baking sheet.
- 6
6. Layer 6 slices of cheese over the bottom rolls. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the cheese, then add the remaining 6 slices of cheese.
- 7
7. Place the tops of the Hawaiian rolls over the sliders. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.
- 8
8. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown. Mine were perfectly golden at 13 minutes!

9. Slice into individual sliders and serve warm.

💡 Tips for Success
- Grate the onion. Grating the onion helps distribute it throughout the beef and gives the sliders that classic little-burger flavor.
- Drain the grease well. Removing excess grease helps keep the Hawaiian rolls from becoming soggy.
- Use American cheese for a classic copycat flavor. Mild cheddar is delicious, too, but American cheese gives these sliders that familiar fast-food cheeseburger taste.
- Keep the beef layer even. Spread the beef mixture all the way to the edges so every slider gets plenty of filling.
- Watch the oven closely. These sliders bake quickly! Start checking around 12 minutes to keep the tops from getting too brown.
- Serve them fresh and warm. They're best straight from the oven while the cheese is melted and gooey.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Hawaiian rolls for these sliders?
Yes! Hawaiian rolls are perfect because they're soft, slightly sweet, and easy to bake together in one pan, but potato rolls are also my favorite.
Are these sliders similar to Krystal or White Castle burgers?
Yes! The grated onion, small beef crumbles, American cheese option, and creamy burger mixture give these sliders a flavor inspired by classic Krystal and White Castle cheeseburgers.
Can I make these sliders ahead of time?
You can cook the beef mixture ahead of time and refrigerate it until you're ready to assemble the sliders. For the best texture, assemble and bake them shortly before serving.
How do I store leftover sliders?
Store leftover sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven until warmed through for the best texture.
What should I serve with game day sliders?
Serve them with French fries, potato chips, pickle spears, onion rings, or your favorite game day dips. They're also delicious alongside a simple pasta salad.
Can I use a different type of cheese?
Absolutely! American cheese gives you the classic fast-food flavor, while mild cheddar adds a slightly sharper taste. Use whichever your family prefers.
