Alabama Fire Crackers
These Alabama Fire Crackers are a salty, spicy, ranch-seasoned snack that has been a game day favorite in my kitchen since 2009. They take just a few minutes to mix together, then sit overnight so all that seasoned oil can soak into the crackers. Serve them by themselves or with a side of pimento cheese for an easy game day snack everyone will ask you to make again.

If you’ve ever been to one of my game day gatherings, there’s a good chance you’ve had these Alabama Fire Crackers. This was actually the first game day recipe I ever made, way back in 2009, and it quickly became one of those recipes that people kept asking me for.
There’s nothing complicated about this recipe, and that’s exactly why I love it. You mix together canola oil, ranch seasoning, red pepper flakes, and a few simple spices, toss in a whole box of Saltine crackers, and let them sit. That’s it.
The key is giving the crackers time to absorb the seasoned oil. I usually let them sit for 15 to 24 hours, flipping the bag every few hours so the oil and seasoning continue to work their way into all of the crackers.
They come out salty, crunchy, a little spicy, and packed with ranch flavor. They’re the kind of snack you can put out at a football party and watch disappear.
And if you really want to take them up a notch, serve them with pimento cheese. That combination is one of my favorites.
This recipe has been around in my kitchen for years, and every time I make them, someone asks, “Can I get that recipe?” So here it is!
📝 Ingredients
- 1 ⅔ cups canola oil
- 2 packs powdered ranch seasoning
- 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (16-ounce) box Saltine crackers, all 4 sleeves
👩🍳 Directions
- 1
Add the canola oil, ranch seasoning, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to a gallon-size zip-top bag.
- 2
Zip the bag and mix the oil and seasonings together really well. Use your hands to help combine everything.
- 3
Add all 4 sleeves of Saltine crackers to the bag and zip it tightly.
- 4
Turn the bag upside down and right side up for about 1 minute to get the seasoned oil incorporated into the crackers.
- 5
Lay the bag flat and let it sit for 15 to 24 hours, flipping the bag every few hours.
- 6
Pour into your favorite bowl and serve. They’re also great with a side of pimento cheese!
💡 Tips for Success
- Use canola oil: Canola oil is the recommended oil for this recipe because it absorbs into the crackers well. Other oils may not give you the same result.
- Mix the seasoning first: Take a minute to really combine the oil and seasonings before adding the crackers so the seasoning is distributed more evenly.
- Don’t rush the resting time: The crackers need time to absorb the seasoned oil. I recommend letting them sit overnight.
- Keep flipping the bag: Flipping the bag every few hours helps distribute the oil throughout all of the crackers.
- Want more heat? Add a little extra red pepper flakes if you like your Fire Crackers with more of a kick.
- Serve with pimento cheese: This is my favorite way to serve them. The creamy pimento cheese is so good with the spicy, crunchy crackers.
